How do you keep up with your fitness goals while on holiday?
I think that it is ok to take some time off your usual gym routine, however it’s also possible to squeeze in some time for exercise if that is what you wish to do.
Here are a few tips that I’ve used myself:
1.If you’re on Classpass, you can check if the country that you’re going to has Classpass as well. (Not sponsored!) . One advantage is that you don’t have to scramble to pause your subscription when overseas, but you can use up your existing credits from your subscription cycle. You’re able to explore new studios overseas at possibly a discounted rate too, as I’ve noticed that Classpass sometimes offers discounts when you’re visiting that specific gym for the first time. You’ll also be able to see some reviews of the class beforehand on the app as well, to see what others have thought of these classes and whether you might be a good fit. Recently I went to a pilates class on the Classpass app and it was really refreshing change from the teaching style that I’m used to.
2.Scope out the gym
If you’re in a hotel, or on a cruise, more often that not, a gym is available (size will vary!). Sometimes only cardio equipment is available, other times perhaps some dumbbells (and perhaps a Smith machine if you’re lucky) would be available. After seeing what equipment is available, you’ll be better equipped to plan your workout.
3.Find a new running route
Prior to leaving for your destination, you can google for whether there are scenic (and safe) running routes near your hotel. If it’s not so convenient, there’s always the treadmill!
4. Bodyweight exercises
I love how the Ladder app has a new feature that offers travel workouts with varying equipment— treadmill, dumbbells, or even bodyweight! Don’t underestimate bodyweight exercises, they can be very challenging as well, if done correctly.
Lastly, don’t beat yourself up if you’re not getting your usual training plan in while on a holiday. You’re allowed to enjoy yourself and relax while on holiday — you can get back on track when you reach home !
